Well, it should definitely be optional, in case it disturbes someones play or if you just don't want to spend CPU cycles on music. I don't see why it wouldn't be. But knowing Bungie, it wouldn't bother the immersion at all, but would be used to enhance it. Some of the music from Marathon 1 made things really spooky, it really put you on edge in the darker levels. And it didn't overpower the things happening around you.
