I don't beleive that there is any sort of time travel or dreaming or anything going on before Infinity. Its all real until then. I think the Deja Vu you experience is from your battle experience during the rampage of the battleroids. You would only have vague feelings about that time because your memory would likely have been erased after the rampage. This is why you only have memories of your childhood as well as on Tau Cetu, but nothing in between. Of course, it is interesting to note the hidden message left to us by Bungie on the map of Never Burn Money: "The Jjarro were at Tau Ceti" (by the way, it is interesting to point out that they spelled it with two r's here)
If the Jjaro were there, they could have had a profound impact on the events that transpired. However, despite this cryptic message, I don't believe that anything that happens in the first two games is either a result of time travel or any kind of illusion.
