You will recall that the Marathon maual says, "This seems strangely familiar to you." It is refering to the opening of the first door in Marathon as a similar situation to PID. In Bungie games, there are many common themes throughout which will reoccur at different points in time. A key point of the dream issue would be whether you're dreaming in PID. Although this theory would account for alot of things in the game(talking to dead GERMAN and CUBAN soldiers etc.) this would be a falsehood. At the end of the game, the pyramid really does blow up. It is still possible to have you be in a dream at that point, but then you would have to either wake up in the Marathon universe or dream the whole thing. Either explanation is way too far out there for Bungie to pull. Unfortunately, there aren't many other explanations. With only limited resources to draw from, you, the player, are forced to make certain decisions and assumptions which may or may not be true. You can decide that the whole thing is a dream. (By the way, this would also account for being able to see what's going on after you splatter.) Or you can come up with some other explanation. It is ultimately your decision. Believe what you will.
