Maud'Dib's mother, Jessica, was a reverend mother, and took the water of life while pregnant with Alia. This caused Alia to have the memories of all her ancestors, giving her great knowledge and wisdom. Alia still lacked the prescient capabilities that Paul Maud'Dib had. When his twins were born (a boy and a girl) they both gained the memories of their ancestors and the prescient gifts. The son, Leto II, sacrificed his humanity, and combined with the sandworm to become the God Emperor (third book in the series). The sandworm "skin" make him very strong and he lived over 4000 years.

Leto reminds me more of the marine than Alia does, because he is more of a cyborg in the sense that he combined with other things to become more powerful.
