Well it matters a little bit. Tycho can be a bit inconsistent with the things he says and he's a bit untrustworthy. The fact that he's implying he might do something gives weight to how the main character interprets what's about to happen. Again, the point I'm making is that I don't think there's enough going on here for the main character, or anyone else, to decide to switch timelines at this point.
If anything, Tycho threatening to use the trih'xeem should make the main character try and destroy Durandal faster (as does happen in a later Chapter) to prevent Tycho using the weapon out of panic.
: PS: the preferred spelling is tri h xeem .
It's spelled in like three different ways in the game and when Tycho refers to it he refers to it as tri xeem. They're all valid ways of spelling this alien word. I'm not sure what anyone's "preferences" have to do with it.
