I did buy a trackball many years ago. I think I used it for about five minutes before giving up forever. 2 minutes is about my limit trying to play Marathon on a smartphone touchscreen, before uninstalling it for the umpteenth time. I'd imagine a trackpad would be similarly frustrating, but probably still better.
