We have to remember that Tycho's personality is a clone of durandal... stuck in his anger phase. Durandal wasn't the deadpan smooth-talker we know now back when we first met him in Blaspheme Quarantine (and if you found his terminal on The Rose, he was even nuttier then). There's a reason Tycho's secret terminal announcing his s'pht-reconstruction is on the same map. Then who knows what happened to him on the pfhor homeworld? Bernhard Strauss was probably a way nicer guy to his machines than pfhor engineers (or s'pht, if they have to rely on slaves for that).
