I'd say so; at most, their AI from before then was probably more comparable to mundane computer programs and processes. If they were already familiar with sentient AI, then why did they feel the need to crack open Tycho's core to see how he worked?

The lack of communications terminals on the Pfhor ship in M1 could just be early-installment-weirdness, though Durandal could have deliberately kept you away from areas with terminals so you couldn't fiddle with them and screw something up. Maybe.

(Incidentally, I have this theory/headcanon that none of Tycho's clones are self-aware or have the capacity for it, because the Pfhor aren't that stupid.)
