My explanation is simpler; Tycho in general tends to try too hard to make things sound poetic, often in ways that don't really work. "And from you? Not the grateful awed respect I so rightly deserve, is that it? Instead base treason, mean aspect of your frightful master, turned foul. Prepare to drink vacuum, fool." He's trying to sound like Shakespeare or something. It's too much.

I used to wonder why the writing, which is usually really quite good, seems to deteriorate sometimes when Tycho is around, until I realized something; Tycho's personality is basically that of a teenager. It explains a lot of his quirks; the hyper-aggression, the enormous ego, the abrasive attitude, the extremely strong convictions that nonetheless change at the drop of a hat (All these poor people deserve justice! ... Eh, what did they ever do for me? Leela and I will hunt you to the core! ... Eh, Leela deserved what she got), and the obvious insecurity and jealousy underlying it all (he's just *got* to prove he's better than Durandal).

It's kind of brilliant, once you notice it.
