It's actually not that difficult to predict Halo enemies. In some cases, the AI actually makes it easier (which is purposeful). I played the first Halo so many times, that I eventually locked into playing each level exactly the same way every time, to the point where I knew how each encounter would go before it happened. And enemies generally appear in the same places each time, too. A new game will obviously have more advanced AI, and the Halo games do enemy behavior better than most franchises. But I never had a problem with the AI in Marathon. Even if it is simpler, enemies are generally doing exactly what they're supposed to be doing. And they're sometimes much less predictable, as they will randomly sidestep because of how they're pathing works. And enemies appearing in the same places never bothered me either. That's what creates most of the memorable moments. Same with the Halo single player.
