Nice visual counter :)
Marathon 1 had indeed the 2-eyes top, 1-eyes bottom (if I recall correctly?!)
Marathon 2 and inf have the 1top, 2 bottom settings. But as the Hunter has a harnass it would make sense to protect also the eyes, so why not insert a prism (or three) to rederict the eye-sight, while protecting them from direct harm. Hence the (up-side-down) Y-slits

'Nother thing which bugged me senseless, when opposing a hunter mano-a-mano, why wouldn't it use it's pointy shields to punch you senseless? (A certain Other Bungie Hunter springs to mind)
