Definitely explains why Bungie employees : get annoyed when information is leaked before its time. :) Sure can be difficult, yes. It should be noted that I'm not one of the Bungie team; I work in the group at Microsoft that handles licensing. I'm also a fanboy geek who HATES it when tie-in products don't match the source material. Hence my annoyance about the timeline discrepancies between what goes into the book and what ends up on the website. (On the other : hand, it's pretty fun to see the development process, a little bit... and : sometimes, not always but sometimes, you have more respect for the final : result if you know there was more than a little thought behind getting : there.) Well, I have a tremendous amount of respect for the source material; the Bungie team did a FANTASTIC job on the game. It is insanely beautiful and plays insanely well. My goal with the novel was to ensure that the book reads as well as the game plays. If we managed a novel HALF that good, then it'll still be a tremendously good read; the other major goal was to make you, the players, feel like the HALO universe is a living, breathing, logical and consistent setting. I think we succeeded, and I hope you enjoy the book as a companion piece to a splendid game. Eric T.
