I love the word presumably. I wonder what role the Argo will have in Halo? :P
Ok, for this new info to fit into the marathon story line, some dates will have to be wrong. Why? I dont know. The marathon traveled through time, or earth changed its calander, or somthing.
Possibility #1: The Marathon was launched before FTL drive was invented, the colony established and all that stuff with the Pfhor never going near earth because of the covenant. Durandal gives earth FTL drive- is masked as a human discovery to shield the public from the fact that a rampant AI of the marathon is cruising around in an alien ship after thier colony had been wiped out, with a moon sized ship captured by hostile aliens. Not the best PR ever.
Possibility #2: The Marathon was launched well after the events in halo, after humanity some how lost the science, knowledge and technology of FTL drive- along with knowledge of the covenant. [unlikely in my opinion]
Possibility #3: The launch of the marathon is followed by the development of FTL drive, war with the covenant, and total destruction of earth colonies while marathon is still en-route to Tau Ceti. FTL ships dont visit marathon for reasons unknown.
