The solution for this is to apply clear gloss varnish (and allowing it to dry!) on the surface before putting the decal on; this creates a smooth surface for the decal to adhere to.
Are there any particular brands of clear gloss varnish you would recommend? If I have a brand name, it's far easier to locate at a craft store, or my local comic store (- should relaly be called the local Warhammer40K store... so much tabletop game stuff!).
: Of course, after putting on a water-slide transfer you MUST put on a fixative coating to prevent the transfer from tearing or simply dissolving off.
: They're unfortunately sensitive to things like sweat and finger oils.
I almost had to use a Krylon spray during the construction of my "real Life" Marathon Terminal last year. I got away with just using a Black Acrylic spray as a base, and not using a sealant.
Does the varnish finishing sprays protect the water based transfers from my fingers? Also: My brother wants to use my Black Acrylic spray paint as a dark primer for his Warhammer figures. Is this advisable?
: See above for the handling... the only other possible fly in the ointment is
: if the figures are made from flexible plastic. If the figures tend to
: flex, then the sealant and the decals are at risk. They should still be
: alright if handled gently.
I'd only be affixing the logo to hard plastic figures chests and shoulders. Perhaps on their backs too. (Some Armor Core Robot figures, an maybe my Starcraft Firebat, among others).

Thanks for your help Steve. I wonder what the connection is with Marathon people being helpful being named "Steve". ; )
