In Response To: Oh, and some other things (Scumbag) Just to clarify the numbers game, The only reason Marathon didn't totally trounce Doom was that it came out for the Mac. The only reason that Halo became so popular is that it came out for the X Box. No Mac or PC game can ever compete with games released for consoles. Had Marathon come out on Nintendo, it would have been a major hit. And we won't even talk about the marketing issue. Some people will never take a train because it's old technology - they're slow, they're rickety, all sorts of riff-raff ride on them etc. Yup, flying's the only way to go. But then there are the classic trains like the Empire Builder or the San Francisco Zephyr. Instead of being just another way to get there, these trains will, over the course of 3 days, expose you to a part of the American West that few people see anymore. Sure, they're not so sleek or modern, but with a few "open source" improvments, they're holding their own. Sure, you could read about the history of train travel in a book, and you could view pictures of the West on-line, but it's definitely not the same. OK, so I like analogies ;^) |
