In Response To: Actually... (Scumbag)

: I've practically played them all - memorizing the Story Page tends to do
: that.

No, you haven't. I'm fortunate to have two friends who became astronauts. I've read a lot about space travel and NASA and have seen nearly all the movies made about the space program, but my friends assure me that absolutely nothing prepares one for the real thing. For example, one of them talked about what it was like his first night home after a month on the International Space Station. He awoke in shear terror, feeling an enormous force on his back and seeing the ceiling straight ahead - he was certain he was going to be hurled right into it. Hearing about space travel from my friends gives me a much better sense of what it's really like, but they assure me that they had heard all of this but that nothing prepared them for the real thing.

: Unless you're telling me that I'd find things in the game that ain't written
: in the terminals...?

I can describe the Grand Canyon to you in intimate detail, or you can go see it. You can't possiby understand the terminals other than by coming upon them during gameplay. Even for the old-timers, it's not quite the same anymore - we know everything already. For the novice player, on the other hand, reaching a particular terminal after a particular encounter in a particular part of the ship - you need to read the terminals in context, and that means playing the games. With so many people talking about how much better the Marathon trilogy was than Halo 1, aren't you a bit curious to see why? There's a lot more to a good game than graphics.
