Marathon standard I'm confused about

Hey folks. Quick little question, from a Halo player who has been looking at Marathon for a while. (Wish I could play it, but I have limits to how low I'll slum for a game, and 2D sprites and lack of solid controls are dealbreakers)
Durandals all "I can be a God", right? Well, he's still an AI, still stuck in computer cores and stuff, right? How, then, can he 'inevitably' be 'infinite'?
