In Response To: Fascinating . . . But i'm not gonna be . . . . (Jäger) TNG reference. Sorry. Anywho, if indeed replication is involved ("Timeline", anyone?) then we couldn't really call it a "transporter", per se, as it's not actually transporting anything. Another note: "In the footsteps of God" is a book where scientists have created a super computer capable of human level intelligence. Rather than code it, the scientists copy their own mind patterns via a Super MRI, which more or less gave the user a readout of the scanned [whatever] on a molecular level. However, the Super MRI caused quantum changes in the scientists when scanned, and they all developed rare or odd conditions. One of the guys went schitzo, and another had an uncontrollable sex drive. Weird stuff like that. Anywho, my point is that if we could get an accurate scan of a person on a molecular level, then it would be safe to rebuild people at the other end because we'd know exactly how to get the machine to reassemble them. Personally, the idea of folding space ala Dune appeals much more to me than any personal teleportation. -Bill
