It's not quite ready for human use, but the idea does not seem that far fetched anymore. Make no mistake, we are still a long way away from anything remotely resembiling true teleportation, but what has been accomplished is amazing enough in its concept. The underlying principle of transfering the quantum state of one atom to another in a remote location is sound, and it doesn't involve the need for physically transporting or creating matter, or converting it to energy and back. The big challenge would be to do this for the entire molecular structure of a person and, of course, to assemble the molecular structure at a remote location in the first place. If that could be done, however, one's thoughts would literally be transferred to the new location instantaneously, providing the appearance of teleporation to the user. And this isn't a matter of copying a person, leaving the issue of the original being left behind - literally it is the transference of the animate to the inanimate and vice versa in the opposite direction. In other words, inanimate matter would be converted to the user at the remote location, and the user would be converted to inanimate matter at the sending location. Pretty cool, and plausable in the very long range - certainly by the time of the Marathon.
