In Response To: Re: help me out...to read this (Forrest of B.org) : The universe has a tendancy to balance things; balance is good.
The universe is inherently neutral - good and bad are human concepts. Humankind has spread throughout the Earth and destroyed much of the original natural habitat. In the 19th century, this was considered good - we were taming nature. But in the process we have destroyed a majority of the world's species and left pollution and destruction in our wake. Is humanity inherently good or evil? What about Ghandi? What about Hitler? And what about Einstein - the man responsible for changing the way we look at everything, but who is also responsible for the atom bomb? And what about the cosmoligical constant itself? Too big and atoms would have never formed in the first place, too small and the universe would have collapsed back upon itself in its first few moments. No, balance is not natural. Life and humanity sit on top of a fulcrum, ready to topple to entropy on one side as the sun burns its fuel and to entropy on the other as we create the means of our own destruction. Thoth - we need you! |
