: Why, for the love of BOB, do we have to keep hearing about E/Zero?
: No offense to the developer, but it will be a long time before it becomes
: anything more than a glorified tech demo. The potential is certainly
: there, and I'd be working on it if I had any programming skill, but it is
: not a solution to our problems here and now.
: If you don't like the direction A1 is headed in, and I certainly don't, why
: not get on the mailing list and say so? Bugs or not, I'm sticking with
: A1 until somebody can come up with an alternate engine that can handle
: every goddamn Marathon map out there.
I have spoken to several developers that meet in A1 chat. Most of them have said the same things: they can't be bothered to meet up and actually do something progressive because there's nothing in it for them. I mean, you knew A1 development wasn't a paying project, so why did you take the job in the first place? Anyway, my suggestions were met with the same general responses: "It's a nontrivial addition." "Bug-fixing is boring." "LUA is more important." I'm not alone when I bring up these remarks, but I'm met with the same response every time. It doesn't help that I don't know much about programming myself - I'm sure that my suggestions and remarks are met with disdain ("Pfft, he doesn't understand what it's like").
