The releases aren't "for" anything; something changed, so they automatically get built. Those Lua patches are because someone wanted them and sent them in; they aren't happening "instead" of anything, and nobody is going to not commit patches just because other things don't work.
If you think CTF is bad, perhaps you should actually say so somewhere permanent like the bug tracker (which people do seem to read now) or mailing list, instead of an AIM chatroom.
