In Response To: Halo - a look back over seven years (Louis Wu) : http://halo.bungie.org/news.html?item=24503 : Give us what you got! I remember when I first got my hands on a copy of Halo: CE. I was 11 years old at the time and I was pretty clueless at gaming. I opened it up as a christmas present along with my xbox and a copy of Dead or Alive 3, but I'd never heard of it and had no intention of playing it because it sounded like it was something religious and tacky. A friend of mine came over later that day and started messing around on the level Damnation. I watched with interest until I couldn't stand it and I jumped in and we held our first-ever multiplayer match. After a couple of hours of 1 on 1 deathmatches we kicked off the campaign and played all the way to AoTCR. We got lost and frustrated to a point where we started killing each other. He went home and I continued on my own and eventually beat the campaign that day. He very rarely touched Halo after that day, but I continued. Over the next few years I used Halo as my way of gathering more xbox supporters around my community. I'd show them Halo and they'd follow suit with their own console and game purchase. I always remained the best amongst everybody I met and was even known for training people and improving their game. I devoted myself to not just the gameplay, but the universe itself and memorized every detail and every fact, making myself the go-to guy for any information on the series. With Halo 2 and 3, I'm no longer the best gameplay wise in the area, but I'm still the most knowledgable and I'm known as the Grandfather of Halo amongst our community due to my being the original Halo gamer in the community. I trained many people and they've gone on to train others and so on. Overall, I'm glad of the lifestyle I chose 7 years ago. It allowed Halo to bloom in my otherwise plain community and it built my reputation as a local legend amongst gamers.
