In Response To: Re: Halo - a look back over seven years (magdala) Where to start? I didn't know much about Halo before and during the launch of the OG XboX. I first saw it in action at an XboX launch party in SF. I didn't get to play it then because there was always people on the kiosks that they were on. So launch time rolls around and I pick up Halo along with Fuzion Frenzy. Right away I'm sucked into the campaign, with it's co-op play and outstanding multiplayer! I browse through the manual and discover the 7th column and from there I find Rico's House of Halo (Rico has been front paged a few times) which is a couple of cities away from me (20 miles or so) Me and my brother sign up and go check out what's going on with this so called "LAN" party (I've never heard or been to one prior) We were blown away by Halo's LAN capabilities and the +11 fun factor of a LAN environment. 7 years later Rico's is still going (not as strong as before but we're still alive and kicking!!) Matter of fact we're lanning H1 this Friday! Me and my brother get owned the 1st few times there as we were only accustomed to playing each other along with a few friends on split screen. So I come up with a "jerry rigged" way for us to get split screen gaming in lieu of my brother not having an XboX yet. I take an RCA Y splitter and hook it up to my living room tv and get the other signal to my old commode 64 monitor, hey you make due with what you have! So with LAN's almost every week and practice time at my place we increase our Halo skill sets quickly. Early on in the LAN's Rico had it set up tournament style with a champion being crowned at the end of 10 rounds. There were 7 complete "seasons" that were played, of which I won the last 2 completed, tourney 8 was scrapped due to various reasons ( I was in the lead to win my 3rd consecutive title!) Then I hear about XboX connect and get some time in there online, although it lagged bad at most times it was the only way to play H1 online. H2 rolls around and I come across the Mt Dew ad contest through here, luckily enough we get selected to be in the ad! (If you search the ad here I'm the guy in the right corner of the big picture) So not only do we get our 15 min's of Halo/interwebz fame we also get to play Halo2 before the public does! It was a great time/trip that I'll remember for the rest of my life. I also attended the SF i love bees event at the Metreon, where we got to play H2 with the public that attended, I won all the matches I played, might've been from my previous hands on experience in Redmond;^) With the launch of Halo2 I enter the local Game Crazy tourney and win! With my win I got to purchase the 1st copy in store and won a Brute figure, I thought I was supposed to win the MC chief statue that was in store, I think I got bamboozled, oh well. SO H2 doesn't live up to the hype that was built up and people started to not want to LAN this title in the "House" myself included as well as the host, part of the reason that the tourney was scrapped as I mentioned in the last paragraph. I also participated in the MLG tourney in SF where we got spanked and a local college tourney where we came in 2nd place. Finally H3 rolls around and everything is good again in the Haloverse! Although I didn't pick it up at launch, I played it at the House after launch and was drawn into it. It was what H2 should've been, although it still comes in second to H1 in my book. So H3 is my only recourse for online/quick fix Halo play as our LAN's are now fewer and far between. I've wanted to try and get into H1 PC, but I can't play with the mouse and keyboard combo, will the 360 PC controller work with H1 PC? I'm just glad that we still pop in H1 once in a while as I really look forward to those nights!
