In Response To: Halo - a look back over seven years (Louis Wu) Halo was the first video game that I played with friends. Before halo existed, my video gaming experience consisted of my various Sega systems, and my NES. I played these old games with my little brother or alone. Even when i got a Dreamcast, which had online capabilities, I never played online because it was technically demanding, and i was 13 or so. One day, one of my friends from middle school had a party at his house. Back then, my friends and I were all playing Dungeons and Dragons. My friend had just gotten an Xbox, and he had Halo. Instead of playing D&D all night, we wound up playing CTF on Longest until my friends parents told us to shut the hell up. I eventually bought my own Xbox, and went as far as to rig a 120 foot cat5 cable between my house and my neighbors so that we could play systemlink. Throughout high school, i constantly brought my Xbox over to friends' houses for Lan Parties. As high school concluded, and my friends and I were taking the IB tests, we had daily LANs at my house playing Halo 2, and almost exclusively playing Shotties on Turf and Swat on Lockout. When I went off to college and lived in a dorm, I met all of my new friends with Halo 2: one day I was going to take a shower, and i heard familiar BR noises coming from an open room. I peeked in, and there were about six people inside playing. I somehow managed to make friends with all of them, and after that we played almost nightly. This probably explains my bad grades freshman year. All of those guys are my best friends now, and i don't think I'd know anybody in college at all if it weren't for Halo.
