In Response To: Earth IS the Ark??? (bluedozer) : The covenant may have already knew about this : somehow and thats why they were looking for earth for backup just in case : anything went wrong with the rings they found. And thats why they were in : such a small group, they split up to different sectors to find earth. That might explain why they didn't glass Earth as with Reach; damaging the Ark (whether it be Earth or is on/in Earth) would be unacceptable. Then again, you'd think they'd have sent a fleet LARGER than the one at Reach to ensure Earth's successful capture, not one 1/50th the size as Cortana points out.
