Hmm. That may push that scenario further back on the list for me. I really don't enjoy those encounters-- not because they are surprising, that's fine, but because it draws the encounter design itself to the fore. If one enemy can beam in, why not ten? Why not one hundred?
Once the environment becomes something the player must traverse, but enemies do not, it makes it too clear in the mind of the player that they aren't playing against the on-screen enemies, but against the level designer.
IMHO.
