In Response To: Oooh, demography! (Arithmomaniac) This is another reason that 1984 depressed me. The very idea of thought crime was depressing but it added insult onto injury that you would have to work so hard to keep up with a Truth that changed from day to day. Today all but 200 million died. Today billions died but billions remain. Today millions died. Today ????????? (oh my brain) I think that halo fiction has taught me to switch off my brain. Think that something conflicts with canon? Don't worry, tomorrow there will be a different version of the facts that also conflict with canon but in a different way. Canon shmannon. Whatever. But it does make it hard to reason or speculate on what happens in the fiction. I think that people who insist that the Haloverse is consistent must be subject to cognitive dissonance. They have to come up with new and inventive ways to ignore the obvious.
