In Response To: Re: Bleh, linguistics and all that jazz. (NotTheVacuum) : Yeah, pretty dumb that you aren't using the cloud or a flash drive... I realize that hatin' on Cody and snarky responses are all the rage in this thread, but I've got to agree with Cody that it's a bad system. I just think the question you should ask it this: Am I playing right now because I'm having fun, or because I want to unlock the next toy/get to the next rank? In my own personal experience, I realized one day that I was playing a couple of games not because I was having fun playing the game, but because I really wanted to unlock things. At the same time I was hating the games because I was doing nothing but grinding, I also couldn't put them down. It wasn't about picking up a game to have fun and unwind, it was a job where I had to put in a certain number of hours a day to get an in-game paycheck. It was work. I don't want to play a game that feels like work. Now, there may be people who enjoy the system, but I'm not one of them. I too agree that if the developer thinks an ability or weapon is a good addition to the game, then why should I pay them with my time just to eventually get to use it. I come off with the feeling that not only do they want me to pay them money to start the game, but they want me to pay them my time to have full access to the game. And yeah, I've heard the argument about "you have to play through campaign to access all the levels". I'm talking about multiplayer. I put a lot of time into Halo 1, 2, and 3 multiplayer, and I never felt I missed out on something by not having a progression system that unlocked gameplay items. Reach started down this road with the credit system to unlock armor, which didn't matter much because it was superficial, but it's now progressed to actual gameplay items. How far are we going to go with this? They've tested the waters with giving people who buy the more expensive version early access, and there was a lot of backlash, but does that mean they're not going to try it again? Are they going to go the way of Battlefield 3 where they'll give you the option of grinding for gameplay items or you can just give them more money and get those items right away? Are they going to start finding new and better ways to nickle and dime us for things that used to be automatically included in games? I'm just afraid that 343i is going to be too tempted to go down the path of these other companies, and just like the frog in the slowly boiling water, most gamers won't know the difference until it's too late.
