I agree with you on the changing of the species from one game to the next. Going from ODST to Reach, the Brutes made a huge change in appearance, and it's taken me a while to get used to the way they look in Reach. Come to think of it, they were drastically changed from Halo 2 to Halo 3, and that was because in 3 they became the major enemy to fight, where they were not encountered much in Halo 2, so they had to be fleshed out more for their much bigger role in H3. That's understandable. The change from H3/ODST to Reach was almost like a downgrade, as the Elites were stepping in to fill a bigger role again. I guess it's that "downgrade" feel that I get from the Brutes in Reach that bothers me a little. Anyway, you make a great point that major changes have happened to species from game to game, and yet it really bothers people when the Master Chief gets more or less dots on his gloves. I'm one that is also bothered by the changes to the Chief's armor, and haven't really given the species changes much thought (though the Brutes in Reach do bother me and have from day one of Reach play). It's attention to detail that attracts many, including myself, to the Halo series. When details change for no clear reason it bothers some who pay attention to such things.
