I agree. It's ridiculous how they're basically saying that their "fictional" reason to change it is to make him more like he's wearing a jet fighter. That's not a fictional reason, it's an artistic one. Also, the statement feels a lot as if they're saying "you see, we don't think Bungie really gets Halo. We understand Halo better than they ever did so we changed the Chief. I worked on Daikatana so I should know."

I don't care as much if they're changing secondary things like Marines or Elites, but the Chief is iconic. His appearance has changed before, but every one of his iterations has been consistent in one way or another, mainly in terms of the armor's overall shape and profile. Here, every component of the armor is shaped differently, especially the shoulders and the chest area. The only thing that's even remotely similar is the helmet. And the new design still looks uneven and ugly. It's quite disconcerting to see an emblematic character design trashed this way, like they already ruined the Halo ring.

And why are they calling the original version a diaper when they still have the pronounced "ass plate" (which was a lot smaller in Reach BTW), and this weird, flat rubbery codpiece... thing. It's obscene, like they tried to make him look like a weaponized sexual predator.
