In Response To: BTF#7 The Deeper End of the Military Sci-Fi Pool (Dani)

: Cover would become an essential mechanic, as energy shielding and stamina
: would be out in all but perhaps some unique sequences (much like Vergil’s
: overshielding in ODST).

The fiction says that Spartans are very powerful and resilient but the in game reality is that the player is one of the weakest units on the map in difficulty levels above normal.

Remove shields and reduce health and too right cover will become essential!

To a degree it already is. Even now you either fight from range, cower a lot, or speedrun/break the levels to get through it on higher difficulty levels.

: Weapons fire could do much more realistic damage
: on both ends, with plasma shots boiling away armor and flesh, while
: ballistic ammunition realistically tears through the enemy’s body.

I have no interest in that, in fact it repels me.

: If stamina were to be included, it would be as part of an endurance system
: where your level of endurance effects your sprinting speed, your jump
: height, and your weapon accuracy (much like limb damage effects your
: accuracy in Fallout: New Vegas), heightening the sense of immersion and
: reality tenfold.

So no speed running then. Just cowering and fighting from two valleys away. I imagine that we will be spending so much time hiding behind rocks that we wont get enough exercise to get out of breath.

What form of realistic health will we have?

    realistic regenerating health?
realistic (magic) health packs strewn all over?
or do we pray for medivac before we bleed out after we've been shot?

Actually maybe we should bleed out. Don't worry about health. If we are a faceless soldier then we can pop into another soldiers body after the current one dies. So no return to checkpoint, the battle continues until the mission objective is achieved or all available bodies are gone.

Maybe body hopping isn't realistic but if we want real realism then we should wear a suit covered in bullets with a USB connection to the console/PC. Each hit detonates the corresponding bullet to give us realistic damage.
