In Response To: Re: New post at Misriah Solutions: Quitting Halo * (pete_the_duck) : We've just got different opinions on this--I look at your example above and I : don't see a problem. In fact, I see the system working correctly: the : majority vote won. : If those 10 players really wanted to play CTF that bad, some of them
: But just for the sake of discussion--in your example of ranked, blind voting,
A - 2-flag CTF on Ridgeline
Five people pick option A as their top choice, option C as their bottom choice:
(Since I'm using 1-4 with 1 being your top choice, the option with the lowest sum is the one the system will pick.) Totals:
The system picks option A, 2-flag CTF on Ridgeline. I'm oversimplifying things, but hopefully you get the point. The idea is that you might not pick everyone's #1 choice, but you're much much less likely to pick their #4 choice. For another explanation of why the normal voting system sucks, watch this video. It has cats. (I don't care about the politics or endorse any of them, but the thoughts on voting are interesting.) -------

Wait, what's the score to win in Invasion? Is it 3 or 6? If it's 6, then the score would have to be 4-0 (or 5-1) before the Surrender option becomes available. Both teams would get at least one full round first. -------

If you betray someone and they choose Punish: Strike One
When you start your next matchmaking game, you are still at Strike One (no matter how long the first game took). There are no negative effects for this new game unless you betray someone and get punished - you go straight to Strike Two and its negative effects. Quitting your second game will not make Strike One go away - you have to finish a matchmaking game for it to completely disappear. Strike Two
So in order for you to downgrade a Strike you have to complete a matchmaking game without betraying anyone. Strike Three boots you out of a game and locks you out of team-based matchmaking for 20 minutes, after which you are still at Strike Three. You have to complete one game to be downgraded to Strike Two, and complete another to go down to Strike One (meaning you are one betrayal away from being booted for two games). -------

: Not everybody wants to play by such strict no-quit rules. I think quitting
Maybe the time-out penalty only takes effect after you show signs of habitual quitting. I just think if you're willing to waste another player's time by going into matchmaking and then quitting, you should be willing to give up some of your own time. If you're waiting on friends to get online, play FFA playlists so you can quit without screwing anyone over.
