I don't believe an universally liked design is possible either, but they could do a lot better. Ideally, they should just take the original Mark VI design and add some detail and bumps here and there but keep the core design intact, just as Bungie did between H2 and H3 - they could have gone for a complete redesign but they stayed true to the original. Sure, they did change the gloves, but that doesn't even compare to the complete makeover 343i has given to the armor, or for that matter, everything we've seen of H4 so far, including the Forward Unto Dawn and Cortana.
