Yeah, I was also bothered by that - not the joke itself, but the fact it's the 343 people implying their "rubber bulge" version is so much better they can ridicule Bungie's iconic - and far superior - Mark VI design. I'm almost getting the feeling they're changing these things not because they needed to change them, but just for the sake of it and to drive it home that they're in charge now. Sadly, this is at the expense of visual continuity.
