I always viewed : him as a blunt instrument who did the things he did because of what he is; : a cybernetically-enhanced super soldier who follows the orders of Cortana : and his superiors and that's really all there is to it. Now suddenly it's : like he's Space Jesus destined to bring balance to the universe. I think it was inevitable and I do actually like it a lot. I guess since Dune was my first real intro to hard scifi, that whole theme has kinda stuck.
On the note of the new terminal style, I like it as an experimental thing... I just hope it doesn't continue much after this game. As everyone here as said, the key element was subtlety. You actually had to go in and decipher it yourself, and that's what made it so awesome. It made you a part of the story.
