I'm not really a fan of the "motion comic" genre. I'd rather read a comic or watch a cartoon, not stumble through some early 2000s Flash video. I never found more than one of the Halo 3 terminals in the game, but I read all of them on HBO and thoroughly enjoyed the story. I've seen many threads speculating on things presented in the terminals and (until Cryptum) nowhere else. There used to be a sort of subtle backstory in Halo presented to people like us, while the games largley ignored the meaty stuff in favor of shooting and shooting some more - the H3 terminals stand as a prime example, or mentions of the MAC and the inclusion of Seraph fighters. Even when Halsey is featured prominently in a game, her significance is unknown to the average gamer - she's a scientist who knows the Spartans, and that's about all they get, unless they read her journal or the Nylund books. Animated terminals, in addition to being weird (although I guess if Sparky's had a hundred thousand years to sit around, he's had time to draw some pictures) don't make sense in the story. The only way I can figure is that they are not intended for the Master Chief but for the player: any time we find one, we have to pretend that John isn't viewing it, because we've been told that there is a terminal in every level, and we go a long time without realizing that there's anyone still hanging out on the ring.
