In Response To: Halo [R]Evolved - The Maw (SonGoharotto) My computer's been away for a hard drive upgrade, so I'm late on comments. I love most of the added intro, but here are my thoughts: : • Lt. McKay (COM) : (A bit clearer) "Hardly. No sign of Covies yet,
I can't think of any precedent in any other games where you need to get your "butt" anywhere. It just doesn't sound Halo to me, but I'm not the writer here. : All that remains of the human presence on Halo are less than two dozen men
Yes! We're alone on this alien artifact, and everyone is trying to kill us. I never got a feeling of somber desperation from the plan while playing, but it feels like it belongs here. : This is essentially an on-rails sequence. The player cannot exit the Warthog
You're putting a lot of faith in the abilities of an AI driver. I'm not sure how I feel about anything on rails at all (I've grown to loath the TotS sequence on legendary; LASO challenge was hell), or about changing the physics of the sequence so that the warthog cannot be flipped. If it doesn't feel fluid, it doesn't feel like iconic halo. I know driving now could detract from the ending sequence, but it would be difficult to fully convince me that on rails is a good idea. Also, what about co-op? Does every player get a gunner seat in their own rocket hog, mix and match types, or passenger seats as well? : The area you are in is wide and open, with no real cover beyond the Warthog
If the warthog was trying to jump a trench, you can have the phantom shell knock it into the trench. Have it open up on one end to a larger arena (about the size of beaver creek, maybe) and get blocked off by rock pileup at the other end, and you don't need soft-kills (because kill-zones should only be used if absolutely necessary, IMO). : The Chief enters Cryonics, where the fighting is particularly fierce. Tanks
Interesting idea that has no precedent in mechanics of a halo game. Are we talking ice blocks here than they can melt out of (like bioshock), or frozen into statues that can't thaw, or what? This idea may be more trouble than it's worth as far as implementing it would go. : • Cortana : ...Accessing schematics... there's a service lift at the top of the engine
I don't like the idea of Cortana telling us to blow up a ship before she has an escape plan. Simply omitting the accessing bit would make it sound infinitely more self-preserving. : Master Chief heads up to the top level of
: If the Shade is disabled before Zuka dies, he will jump out and charge with
Elites were still mostly wort-ing in this writing, yes? I agree with Jaydee that Zuka should be shown as different somehow. Does he know enough English to be able to yell "Demon" perhaps? : There is a vehicle bay here, where the player is prompted to take a Warthog.
Gauss turrets could be a problem in the future, especially if the player wants to try and shoot down the later banshees. : • Cortana : "Wait, stop! This is where Foehammer is coming to pick us
: Echo 419 appears around the hull of the Autumn , listing badly and flaming
: • Cortana (COM) : "Cortana to Echo 419! Two Covenant Banshees are
: An explosion causes the Pelican to lurch starboard, wings ablaze, and
I just watched the scene to see what was going on, and I didn't see any actual shots come from the banshees. Hopefully with all our upgrades we could have shots coming out? Even then, with a Gauss hog and the possibility of a player keeping a rocket launcher (that locks on now), they could be shot down with ease. If you want to cover all your bases, could we add a phantom taking a few shots? : We cut in closer to the cyro-chambers. It rotates on its Y-axis, showing an
If we're removing Johnson hugging the elite as the legendary ending, should you throw him in one of those pods? I'll admit that I don't remember where the books put him, but it serves as an explanation to the player for how he got back, and Master Guns doesn't have to know. I like what you've done with the game. Maybe if 343i isn't announcing a Halo remake at E3, then they'll make one in the future. If so, I would very much like for them to take this rewrite into consideration and implement some of the revisions. Great stuff!
