I figure that the use of a Zealot's gold armor for 'Vadamee was similar to the use of a Marathon-class Cruiser for the Pillar of Autumn in Halo 2. More due to time and budgetary constraints than any canon-related issues.

However, the purple ornate Supreme Commander armor was first seen in the Halo Graphic Novel almost two years after the release of Halo 2.
