I think most of the problems stem from -The attempt at a non-linear narrative, ala Mass Effect, without attempting to rewrite the campaign to reflect this design choice. Literally, the 'decisions' you make in game have no effect whatsoever... except Tosh has the chance to hang around longer. -The fact that the guys who were involved with this project were previously doing Wow, combined with the overall lack of direction by a central manager or storywriter. Going through the Developer's Comments has them talking about "Oh, I wanted a sort of Braveheart moment here, where he has this big, stirring speech" or "Oh, yeah, thought it would be awesome to have a boarding action where Raynor and Tychus are leading the way." All this talk about throwing in these "Awesome moments", and not much consideration for making it fit into the story. That said, it's not the WORST entry into StarCraft Lore. That dubious distinction goes to "Shadow of the Xel Naga", written by a certain Kevin J. Anderson under a pseudonym. I could not say enough about how bad it is, except that somebody ought to travel back in time to when Anderson first touched a typewriter and cast "Familicide" on him. That said, I found the WoL campaign to be fun because it was so cheesy. This is as opposed to my reaction to Halo Wars, where I wanted to savage the hands of the writers with a butcher knife so they could never type or write again.
