While it could simply mean that Dr. Halsey is using Cortana to : retrieve the coordinates for Halo, I read it as Cortana being a : Forerunner-made AI that came with the artifact, sort of like the curator : in a museum. : Am I overextending this? Is Cortana Forerunner-made, or not? A custodian is just a keeper/someone responsible. Cortana (a product of Halsey's brain) has had the translated data from the Forerunner artifact downloaded into her as a portable receptacle to be merged with the Cortana on the Autumn for the Spartan's mission to the Covenant homeworld. Cortana is not Forerunner made. She came online in the same year as Prof. Sorvad was beginning his debris field survey in the Visegrád, where he found the so-called 'latchkey' discovery that made the translation of Halsey's Forerunner artifact repository available.
