In Response To: Question (serpx) : What exactly is the job of a movie producer? I've always been confused on : that. Do they have much control over how the movie looks? Or is that : mainly the director? The producers make the production possible - they source the money, manage the appointments of key members of staff, as well as arranging other deals like distribution. Some producers (and the studios who back them) can have veto over directional decisions, hence why you have "director's cuts" of movies where the director cuts the movie how they would have wanted. Visually, they can do very little, though if a director isn't working out, they can replace them within reason.
