Who : ever was playing this level knew when to stop, when to hang around, etc : for certain events. What happens if we ran forward as the strike is being : called in? How many people would actually wait for the hog to run over the : jackals, and just grenade them as they're coming out of the rubble? How : many would intentionally drive towards the Brute and let him jack the hog? : The scripting setup and everything constantly pushes the player forwards, : because that makes for an attractive trailer/demo video with minimal : downtime. : I imagine the actual gameplay of this level was actually -not- what many : people think Halo is about, which is messing around in a sandbox and doing : what you want to get to the end of the level. If you tried to break away : at any point in this demo, the level starts to fall apart. : I'm pretty sure the intention was to show that they had -something- running : in real time, and some ideas they had, but never 'this is supposed to be : Halo 2'. If they did, people should be LIVID over all the old Halo 1 : footage, because almost none of that got to the final game. Unfortunately : people think these kind of demos say "this is what the final game : will be like, exactly", and why we don't get to see demos like this : anymore :( I would have loved to see an early prototype demo of Halo 3. : But I guess all this is moot since apparently Halo 2 got started over some : time after this demo, so either way it wasn't going to make it to final : publish. There was a Halo: Custom Edition map that used heavily the look and feel of the Mombasa presented in the E3 demo and it was a lot of fun to play, so if this level had been in Halo 2 (although with regular encounters instead of scripted sequences, it would have been a fun level to play through.
