In Response To: Re: Where I got Chief/Cortana = Didact/Librarian (Neloms) : I remember when I first presented the idea of the Chief and Cortana going : back in time, and you (or someone else) made the connection between : Chief/Cortana and Librarian/Didact, I was a bit sceptical. However, after : reading your ideas on it in this thread, I really also believe its a : really good idea and would make an very interesting story. : The only thing that still makes me a BIT sceptical about the whole idea is
First off, SonofMacPhisto, I really like your previous post about the similarities between the Chief and Cortana, and the Librarian and Didact. I can really see just how similar they are through your clear post. I hope my following post is just as clear and easy to read. After reading your post though, I had another thought about the whole Cortana/Chief and Librarian/Didact relationship: What if the Forerunner have been trying to shape (some might use the word "manipulate") the Chief and Cortana to do their will? In this sense, the Chief and Cortana wouldn't have to travel through time (which might seem a bit unrealistic to some people). Instead, through Guilty Spark, the Terminals, and the installations, the Forerunners have been working hard to realize their destiny for the Chief. By using the inspiring story of the Librarian and Didact, perhaps the Forerunner have been making suggestions to and shaping the Chief to accomplish what they couldn't--eliminate the threat of the Flood. The Forerunner realized they had lost their war with the Flood. Their attempt as a species to defeat the Flood failed, but their legacy through the Ark, their installations, the monitors, and the Conservation Measure (preserving the uninfected life) succeeded their death. The disappearance of the Flood is still a mystery. But I wouldn't put it past the Forerunner to attempt one last time to defeat their enemy even if they weren't necessarily around to watch it (or who knows, maybe they are :P ). This idea also makes a lot of sense in the context of Guilty Spark's ramblings and his very apparent mission to specifically direct the Chief all over (the Library being a prominent example). Additionally, this gives the "Reclaimer" much more wait. The Chief and Cortana are being ushered by the Forerunner to reclaim the Galaxy from the parasitic Flood threat. I could go on, but for the sake of length, I'll leave it at that. I hope it all makes sense. Anway, discuss! ElusiveEagle
