In Response To: IGN "Gears vs. Halo" (Metalingus627) I know most of the article relies on opinions, but seriously, the Gears storyline is down right retarded. Its like Cliffy B had some really abstract idea and instead of developing it into something useful they pushed it out of the door before anything resembling a story could be put together. Honestly, I have to stop, I just deleted 3 different paragraphs because there isn't anything rational to attack, critiquing the story turns out into a jumbled mess. The characters are so one stereotypical it is insulting so that isn't even useful.I just have two questions: 1, why is there a guy with a southern accent on a different planet? A southerner stereotype? (People though Tai and Cole where stereotyped, but Dizzy blows them out of the water). And 2, why did they not find out about the Horde sooner? I am guessing that the Locust where made by the people, maybe as mining devices which got out of hand, but is it really feasible for the locust to build a Giant undergound cavern that no one knows about, no one would ever do a seismic scan for when they where drilling? There where only two good points I have to say about the story, and that was Tai's suicide (I liked the fact they said a couple times that nothing could kill Tai, except Tai) and Dom's wife (I liked the scene where he finds her, but the whole idea was a little old). While Gears isn't a bad game, even if it could be compared to Halo 3 (They are way to separate games), it doesn't really hold it's own. The only reason Gears has a fanbase is because of the high amount of Blood and how "Hardcore" it presents itself as. If you want a game that has cover, go with Rainbow 6:Vegas 2, that game is so much better, and it is actual in the same category as gears, its a shame it isn't as mainstream as Gears...
