Re: IGN "Gears vs. Halo" | |

In Response To: IGN "Gears vs. Halo" (Metalingus627) : Actually not as biased as I believed it would be. Halo 3 comes out on top. I : didn't read much of it cause I haven't played Gears 2 yet. This article, once one ignores the fact that the article's thesis "there can only be one" is absurd, is more or less fair. One thing I really dislike, though, is the insistence that I have seen all over the place that Halo's story is weak because of its weak characters. These people seem unable to comprehend that Halo's campaign is less about its characters and more about the universe in which they exist. I think the most clear demonstration of this is in the Ascendant Justice article on the Terminals, where they say that the real "main character" of the Halo saga is Mendicant Bias. He doesn't even have a role in the game if you just play it through, yet his significance is vast enough that he can be called the main character. Why? Because he has watched through all the significant events of this universe, for 100,000 years, and played an instrumental role. The greater plot surrounds what he has seen and done in those 100,000 years, not what the Master Chief is doing.
