In Response To: Re: IGN "Gears vs. Halo" (elpolloguapo) : This wasn't about Combat Evolved. It was about Halo 3. Nothing else. : Considering it on its own, Halo 3's story (minus the terminals, of course) : was pretty weak. The first half of the game was just "get to : Voi." Only then did things start happening, and there wasn't much : that was unexpected or terribly dramatic. I think most people figured that : we would go to the ark (whatever or wherever it was), have to rescue : Cortana, have to stop truth, and have to fire a halo. The details were : unknown, but the plot of Halo 3's levels wasn't amazing the way Combat : Evolved and H2 were. Even still, the fact that you are lost for 50% of the game in GOW shouldn't be a great achievement in this article. And the terminals had no basis in any of the other games, as you know. Which is what makes them so special- they were able to come in and captivate me, at least, with a powerful story. When you are as into Halo's story as I am, it's powerful stuff to see these letters between loved ones-knowing that they are both doomed. Gears just hasn't had that similar impact on me.
