So anything that can be done with the DVD recorder can be done better with a capture card, assuming the card's not lacking any inputs present on the DVD recorder and your computer has a DVD burner. The system requirements for the card might still be a factor though - depending on what you want to do with the footage and whether it needs to be edited, it may not be worth it to invest in upgrading your computer (if you'd need to at all - maybe yours is already ok).
