Re: New Bungie Jobs (PC)

In Response To: New Bungie Jobs (PC) (weephun)

: 4 new PC programming jobs posted on Bungie.net this morning.

: Requirement listed in each one: "Previous experience with multiple game
: subsystems is a requirement, as is the ability to shift gears quickly.
: Experience with performance profiling and compatibility issues is a plus.

: A background working with other people’s code and experience writing
: performance-tuned code is essential. Three or more years of experience
: programming professionally in C++ and the Win32 SDK is required.
: Experience with shipping one or more games, knowledge of DirectX 9 and
: Xbox SDKs and x86 assembly, and being an avid PC gamer are definite
: plusses."

: Hmm, let's see ... working with other peoples code ... multiple game
: subsystems ... in Xbox SDK, Win32 SDK, and x86 assembly ... with good
: knowledge of PC gaming and programming ... hmmm ...

: Halo 2 for PC anybody? ;)

: Maybe concurrent release of the "next project"?

I don't know about Halo 2 PC, but that job description pretty well says "PC game programmer" to me.

One thing I haven't seen anybody pick up on (besides the original poster) is that the job opening asks for experience with x86 assembly language. The only good reason to write in assembly language on an established platform is performance, and I'd expect that the only programming at Bungie that would need that kind of effort put into performance would be actual game code. That, combined with all other requirements, tells me that either Bungie is spreading deliberate misinformation (I wouldn't put it past them, sneaky types that they are), or they're developing a PC game.
