The Halo Movie - It's not for them - it's for us. | |

In Response To: Re: The Halo Movie - Who Will Act? (Stuntmutt) : Usually, when a product is advertised, it is aimed at the don't knows.
Indeed, my c0ld-splattering friend, that is usually the case - but not in this case. In the largest sense of the term, *Bungie* is the team making this movie. Everyone else is akin to a tool for them to make this happen. The reason that it is usually the case that people make movies to capture the "don't knows" is because they are coming at it from a certain angle - that angle being "we want to make a lot of money." I think Bungie's angle is more "we wanna make an awesome movie, one that does the series justice, and is pleasing to even the hardest of the hardcore." To be honest, they probably made enough money off of Halo's and Halo 2's sales, combined with how much they are destined to make with H----... their next project, they can probably afford making an awesome movie that all of us, their fans, love, and everyone else is free to love or hate, regardless of how much money that approach will NOT make them. Peter Jackson and WETA seem to be the right people to go to when coming at the movie from this angle. : There are grizillions of Halo fans who will go to see this film anyway. Now,
Oh man, if they came out with a movie that featured Tim Dadabo in a shirtless scene, that would be...... *looks around self-consciously* *Ahem.* As I was saying, I don't think that they're coming at this from a moneymaking standpoint. I think that they know EXACTLY who would be excited to hear that their most hated "self-professed genius" is going to be appearing at the local bigscreen alongside a planet's worth of homicidal zombies. And I think that they are in this for those special people. : There has been a FRIGHTENING amount of money poured into this already. That
Yes, but how many of those opinions are being allowed to guide the course of the film? I think that Bungie has made discretion their middle name for this endeavor. They'll get it changed back to "adventure" when they're done. For now, it's discretion. And with this discretion, they're making darn sure that only those people who "get it" are in on the creative process. : Far as I'm concerned, the movie is being given every chance. Good people are
Unless I've been seriously misled, Bungie isn't just being consulted - they're operating on a "mother may I" kind of system (with the "I get it" creator being given a very good bit of creative freedom). Kind of like Mr. Garland's script, an awesome thing is created, and then brought to Bungie. Bungie then says "Hey, that's awesome. But this particular thing wouldn't happen that way, and here's why." There would then be drafts following the first that progressively get better. The "bible" that was made (to which more will be added later) is designed in such a way as to take Bungie out of the picture as a middle man in these arguments, thus making it unnecessary to always ask "Mother, may I?" Instead, they look down at the book and ask themselves "Does mother say I may?" : BUT : Lots of things have to change. Some for good reason, some for questionable
: The story HAS to change. Because a lot of it is piffle. Remember, this was a
: Casting. Names can attract people to see films. Yes, Darth Vader worked. But
An intriguing idea. I kind of like the idea, actually. Though, I don't like it nearly as much as what I think is really going on. But yeah, the idea of a movie being made that had NOTHING in common with the game in terms of the people filling the roles. Think of the latest Batman film - it took a different turn from the traditions of the series, and many hail it as being a turn for the better. You liked the comics, to which you are devoted, but, at the same time, here is this interesting take on it that you haven't seen before. Like I said though, it'd be a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there. I want to LIVE in the movie-fied version of the Haloverse the way Bungie imagines it - no different. If Bungie says "yeah, this no-name actor is what we imagine the chief as looking like," and then BUNGIE takes the helmet off, then I want to see that. The only reason I stick by the "leave the helmet on" philosophy is because I believe that that is what Bungie wants - therefore, if Bungie wants something different, I want something different. Not because I'm a mindless Bungie zombie (I am a mindful Bungie zombie)but because I know that what makes the series great is the cohesive vision that Bungie has that ties it all together. : Script Writer. Director. Editor. Casting Director.
Sadly, I don't know what you mean by "punter." I assume that that's a British-ism for what we call "the average Joe." I really want to learn more about British culture, so perhaps I'll study abroad there in a semester or two. But as already previously addressed, I believe that the movie is going to be made with the Halo freak in mind, and then if the average Joe gets it, then yay for him. If he doesn't, then oh well. It wasn't made for him anyway. : This film is not a video game.
If they took that whole "re-imagining of the Haloverse" path that I spoke of earlier, then maybe. But if they take what I believe they will take, then I am certain that it will show us more of what Bungie was showing us in its games, just in a different medium that has different rules. : Wu, you are a troll. That would be so cool to see Claude as a set extra for either the Narnia movie coming up or for another movie that called for a troll. I think he might be able to pull it off. BOLL, if you can read this, that would be an awesome photoshop project or flash animation. LoL. Don't kill me, Wu, if he goes through with it - though it'd probably be something I'd be willing to cheat death for, lol. Yeah, this topic has seen a lot of trolls as its author, but this time, the very name of the author demands actual credibility in the discussion that ensues. For the most part. :p -Angel |
